TCP Re-qualification Process
The
Construction Safety Network has determined that it will not be necessary
for TCPs to re-take the two day TCP course again to re-qualify.
Current TCPs can simply take an online challenge exam at a cost
of $25.00 per person. They will be prepared to facilitate exams
starting July 31, 2006.

Three
Options for Re-qualification
It
is understood that not all qualified TCPs have worked in the field
regularly since attaining their original TCP ticket. Further, there
may be TCPs who feel uncomfortable taking tests or would simply
like a refresher and update on rules and regulations. Accordingly,
the Construction Safety Network has created options to assist TCPs
in successfully re-qualifying before their expiration date, without
having to re-take the entire two-day course again. Options include:
- Take
the Exam without Review
- If
confident that knowledge and skills are up to the standard
of the original qualification and the TCP is informed of all
regulatory changes
-
Book an appointment at an exam facility and take the exam
- Self
Study then Take the Exam
-
View or download study materials / resources:
- A
pre-reading study guide will be downloadable free of charge,
along with other relevant resources, from the Construction
Safety Network website www.safetynetwork.bc.ca
as of July 30, 2006.
- Ministry
of Transportation's Traffic Control Home Page - "Traffic
Control Manual for Work on Roadways"
- WorkSafe
BC - review any applicable sections of the Occupational
Health & Safety Regulations
- Review
materials and when prepared, book an appointment at an exam
facility.
-
Complete Traffic Control Refresher Course, then Take the Exam
-
Roadmasters Safety Group Inc. will offer a one-day Traffic
Control Refresher Course (contact 250-383-6041 for schedule)
- Review
traffic control knowledge and skills in a group setting with
an instructor
- When
prepared, book an appointment at an exam facility.
Re-qualification
Process
- TCPs
must submit their most recent TCP photo ID, a passport sized photo,
and $25 exam fee to the invigilator before the exam.
-
Schedule and take the exam at the most convenient examination
location. TCPs have two attempts to pass the challenge exam,
at a cost of $25.00 per time.
-
If TCPs do not pass the first time, they will be encouraged
to do further preparatory study and/or take the one day refresher
course in preparation for their second attempt. ID card and photo
will be returned.
-
If TCPs do not pass the second time, they will be required
to re-take the entire two-day TCP course by which they were originally
certified. ID card and photo will be returned. (*Please note,
this is the only situation in which a current TCP needs to retake
the whole course for re-qualification)
-
Upon successful completion of the exam, TCPs will be issued
a temporary certificate by the invigilator, which is valid for
three months from date of issue. The temporary certificate will
be followed shortly by a new permanent photo ID card, valid for
another three years.
The
TCP re-qualification process has been developed through a culmination
of discussions with TCP Instructors, Master Trainers, stakeholders,
the Technical Advisory Committee, and BC Safety Network Board of
Directors who are confident that it will meet the needs of the industry
and TCPs throughout the province.
Should
you have any questions or concerns about the re-qualification process,
please feel free to contact me at 250-383-6041 or email Roadmasters-vic@shaw.ca.
Sincerely,
Sheila
