Defensive Driving Course - DDC
The
Defensive Driving Course is… a recognized, respected and proven
driver training program designed to instruct and/or refresh drivers
on methods to avoid collisions and other potentially dangerous driving
situations.
Safe
driving means… driving to prevent collisions in spite of the
actions of others and the conditions around you. A skill you master
through study, training, practice and above all, consistent application.

Defensive Driving Principles and Foundations
Avoiding Collisions with the Driver Ahead and the Driver Behind
Avoiding Collisions while Passing/While Being Passed/With the
Oncoming Vehicle
Avoiding Collisions at Intersections
Avoiding Single Vehicle Collisions
Sharing the Road With Other Road Users

Statistics
suggest that a minimum of 85 % of all collisions are preventable
and are a result of Driver error.
Canadian and American studies have shown: The Defensive Driving
Improvement Program is a preventative measure to train drivers
to avoid collisions, and is a post violation program for traffic
violations. Students who participated in this program showed a
marked improvement in driver attitudes regarding traffic safety.
Another study found that there was a 25 % reduction in graduates
who were convicted of any traffic violations after taking the
program. Other studies have shown a pre to post course collision
rate reduction of 22% and a conviction rate reduction of 57% based
on participants who took the program voluntarily.
